Multi-Vehicle Crash Kills Infant, 2 Adults

During the afternoon of Wednesday, February 6th, an SUV ran a red light at a high rate of speed and slammed into two other vehicles at the intersection of Antoine and the Beltway 8-North feeder road. One of the struck vehicles spun out of the way and came to a stop several yards away from the impact point. But the second vehicle, a van, was t-boned and immediately burst into roaring flames. One adult was thrown out of the van and sustained critical injuries. Two other adults and an infant remained in the van and died in the flames. The driver of the other struck vehicle was slightly injured and treated at the scene.

The adult male driving the SUV was determined by responding Harris County Constable Precinct 4 deputies to be highly intoxicated at the scene, and, of course, he was uninjured in the crash. Two passengers in the SUV were injured, including an 11-year-old child, and they were also admitted at a local hospital for serious, life-threatening injuries. The lights at the intersection were confirmed by deputies to be working properly and numerous witnesses who stayed at the crash site until deputies arrived confirmed that the SUV clearly ran the red light.

The selfish SUV driver was immediately placed under arrest at the crash site and now faces three counts of felony intoxication manslaughter and three additional counts of intoxication assault with a deadly weapon. If the surviving victim dies, another manslaughter count will be added. The intersection was closed for several hours to clear the horrific wreck and remove the remains of the deceased victims. Investigation continues as to the events leading up to the crash. The SUV driver remains jailed in lieu of bond, which is likely to be set very high given the appalling extent of the deaths, injuries and damage caused.
