During the afternoon of Thursday, April 15th, disaster was luckily averted in the derailment of twelve mixed cargo rail cars on a Union Pacific train near the intersection of San Antonio and Magnolia Streets in southeast Houston, located near several homes and small businesses. According to a UP spokesperson, the cause of the derailment remains under investigation and efforts are underway to clear the cars and check the rails for necessary repairs. There were no initial reports of any injuries or supporting property damage or cargo leaks requiring a Hazmat response.
