City Sewage Worker Dies in Tank Incident
At about 8:30 on the morning of Tuesday, May 12th, worker at the City of Houston’s 69th Street Wastewater Treatment Plant located at 2525 Sgt. Macario Garcia Drive in the Greater East End of Houston died while cleaning inside a large tank as it began to rapidly fill with water. Fellow workers rushed to pull the man out, and one of them called 911, but by the time paramedics could arrive the man had died. It was not immediately clear why water was introduced in force into the tank while the man was inside it. An autopsy will be performed to determine the precise cause of death, and investigation of the tragedy continues. Adding an ominous note to the man’s death, the plant also asked anyone with knowledge of this case to call the HPD’s homicide unit or Crime Stoppers, raising the possibility that the man was a victim of foul play.
