Wrong-Way Drunk Driver Kills Woman
At about 2:30 am on Monday, November 16th, a highly intoxicated man in his 20s drove his pickup up the exit ramp for Hwy. 6 and proceeded northbound in the southbound lanes of the Southwest Freeway, almost immediately colliding head-on with a Jeep driven by a woman, also in her 20s. The collision involved such force that the front ends of both vehicles were demolished and the Jeep’s driver was killed upon impact. The selfish man driving the pickup was slightly injured. He was placed under arrest for felony intoxication manslaughter and taken to an area hospital for treatment. He presently remains jailed pending a bond hearing. The freeway’s southbound lanes were closed for several hours to allow HPD officers to remove the remains of the deceased young woman, clear the wrecked vehicles and complete their on-site investigation. They have since been reopened.
