Woman Pedestrian Killed Crossing Freeway
According to HPD officers on the scene, an adult woman tried to cross the main lanes of I-45 North Freeway near W. Mount Houston in north Houston around 9:00 pm on Sunday, November 11th, when she was struck by a southbound pickup and then a smaller vehicle traveling in the same direction in rapid succession. The dual impacts killed her. However, while both vehicles had front end damage, neither diver was injured. Police observed that instead of crossing beneath the freeway at the nearby overpass, she chose a virtually suicidal route. Neither of the drivers was speeding in the darkened area and both stopped at the scene and were fully cooperative with the officers. No charges are pending. Investigation of the tragedy will continue, including routine autopsy toxicology tests to determine if the victim was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time she was struck and killed.
