Woman Checking Car Hit and Killed
At about noon on Friday, June 7th, a 60-year-old Alvin woman driving northbound a rural section of Highway 288 had her airbag suddenly deploy and she stopped her vehicle and pulled over onto the northbound shoulder to see why. As she was looking under the front of her parked vehicle, a 19-year-old male driver of a Kia plowed into the rear of her vehicle pushing it into her and killing her upon impact. The teen’s Kia then spun out into the highway where it hit a passing Dodge pickup truck. The occupants of the truck were uninjured, but the teen was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries. Investigation of this incident continues and based upon the results thereof, criminal charges may issue.
This tragedy happened in broad daylight in a straight portion of highway. Therefore, it seems quite clear that the teen’s attention was not on what was in front of him. It is profoundly sad that a woman died because of it. If you or a loved one is ever injured in a vehicle collision, please consider calling us.
