Wet Cement Caused Crash Kills 2 Adults
Just after 6:00 am on Friday, February 14th, Valentine’s Day, a Lattimore Materials owned cement truck malfunctioned and dumped a large load of wet cement onto the pavement of Old Humble Road near Bender Road in northeast Harris County. An approaching vehicle ran right into the spilled cement and its 50-year-old female driver lost control and her car spun directly into the path of an on-coming vehicle, driven by a 19-year-old male. According to Harris County Sheriff’s deputies on the scene, the woman was killed upon impact and the man died a short while later. There were no other occupants in either of those vehicles.
The driver of the cement truck was not directly involved in the collision and was not injured. Further investigation by the deputies confirmed that the deceased woman had a Ph.D in music, and was a highly popular choir director and gospel singer at The Church at Bethal’s Family where her husband is a pastor. The couple have three small children and she had won countless music awards. The church’s congregation and her family are said to be shocked and deeply saddened at her passing. The road was closed for several hours, but has since reopened. There was no initial indication as to whether the cement mixer’s driver will be issued a citation.
Incidents like these are terrible tragedies, but especially when a company vehicle is involved, there is a great deal of help we can provide to those left behind. Nothing can ever replace a loved one, but we are the best in the business at making companies pay up for their intentional acts or mistakes.
