Unbelted Woman Killed by Drunk Driver
At about 1:30 pm on Sunday, November 22nd, two men in their early 20s got into an argument in a bank parking lot. One of the men then ran towards a nearby vehicle driven by a 19-year-old woman and jumped in. She sped away on West Road in near northwest Houston, even though she did not have her seat belt on and her driver’s side door was open. Near the intersection at I-45, a pickup driven by an adult male slammed into the woman’s vehicle head-on. She was ejected from her vehicle through the still partially open door and struck her head on the pavement, killing her upon impact.
According to Harris County Sheriff’s deputies on the scene, the pickup’s driver, who was only slightly injured, was determined to be intoxicated and he was arrested on multiple criminal charges. The man who jumped into the woman’s car was not injured in the collision, and he was not initially charged with any crimes. However, both he and the man he was arguing with in the bank’s parking lot have been detained for further investigation, and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office is now involved in the case.
