Two Maintenance Workers Severely Injured
In a singularly callous statement issued by LyondellBasell’s southwest Houston refinery, it was reported that two maintenance workers were severely injured at or very near the company’s facility located in the 12000 block of Lawndale Street at 2:50 pm on Saturday, January 5th.
HFD firefighters rushed to the scene to treat one man who had been impaled through the back and abdomen by a pipe, which had to have both ends cut off while still inside him so that he could be placed into a helicopter and Life Flighted to an area hospital in critical condition. Another man who had suffered severe and extensive burn injuries was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital for critical care. Shortly after the incident occurred, LyondellBasell issued a terse statement expressing not a shred of decency and simply advising that the incident involved “neither LyondellBasell staff nor work being carried out on our property” and that it “did not affect the operations of our facility.”
Wow, that’s some serious compassion demonstrated there, big, fat-cat company! Undoubtedly, your shareholders will be pleased to know that, although you don’t care at all about the suffering of horrifically injured human beings, you’re right on top of making sure those profits keep rolling in and claiming your liability is zero.
