Speeding SUV Kills Man on Sidewalk
A man standing “in his usual spot” at the intersection of N. Shepherd and W. Little York in the Acres Homes area in north Houston was struck and killed by a Chevrolet Tahoe which was heading northbound on N. Shepherd at about 11:00 pm on Monday, August 24th. According to HPD officers on the scene, the adult male driver of the SUV was driving at a very high rate of speed when he jumped the curb at the intersection, blowing out both of the vehicle’s front tires and leaving deep scrapes in the sidewalk. He then hit the pedestrian, who was dead by the time the officers arrived. Neither the driver nor his only passenger, his adult son, was injured in the incident and both were detained at the scene and questioned extensively. No criminal charges have been filed as yet, but investigation of the tragedy continues to determine if alcohol played a role in causing it.
