Speeding Driver Hits, Kills 2 Pedestrians

At about 11:00 pm on Monday, April 20th, the 25-year-old male driver of a Chevrolet Equinox hit two 38-year-old men walking together alongside the roadway in the 7600 block of Cullen, not far from the I-610 South Loop, then lost control, veered off the pavement and slammed head-on into a large metal light pole. According to HPD police officers who responded, the two deceased pedestrians were found lying in the roadway and the injured Equinox’s driver was taken by ambulance to an area hospital in stable condition with several non-life-threatening injuries. Alcohol did not appear to be a factor in this tragedy, but the driver was speeding. No citations have issued as of yet, but investigation continues and the case like likely be submitted to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office for evaluation of whether any criminal charges should issue.
