Massive Gas Plant Explosions, But No Injuries

Around 6:00 am on Tuesday, July 17th, an enormous explosion occurred at the Western International Gas Plant on West State Highway 159 in Austin County, northeast of Bellville, Texas, followed by the eruption of massive flames in the plant’s central building. Several area fire departments responded to the huge blaze and while they were fighting the fire, several more thunderous explosions occurred. According to Austin County Sheriff Jack Brandes, all the homes within five miles of the plant were evacuated. However, by late morning, the blaze had died down enough that fire fighters were confident it would not spread to large hydrogen tanks at the facility, and they are letting the fire burn down on its own. Incredibly fortunately, there were no reported injuries and all plant personnel have been accounted for. The plant manufactures highly flammable acetylene gas and related industrial products. Once the fire has been extinguished, an investigation of the cause of the incident will commence. Until then, Highway 159 has been closed from Bellville to Hempstead.

In this instance, there were no injuries. But, if you or a loved one is ever injured in such an incident, please consider calling us. We have dealt with industrial accidents and injuries for decades and we are very good at it.
