Man Killed Welding Gas Tank on Boat

During the morning of Monday, July 23rd, Galveston County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call regarding an explosion occurring at a boat and vehicle storage lot at 919 Lawrence Road near the intersection of Marina Bay Drive in Kemah and arrived to find a 57-year-old man with severe burns. The victim was taken by ambulance to Clear Lake Hospital, but he died shortly after arrival. Preliminary investigation revealed that the man was welding a gas tank onto a private boat when the tank, which apparently still contained gasoline, suddenly exploded. No foul play is suspected and investigation continues as it was not immediately clear whether the man was working on his own boat or was working for a customer.

If this unfortunate man was working on his own boat, his death may not have any sort of legal redress. And, even if he was working for a customer he was likely responsible for his own safety. However, if you or a loved one is ever injured in circumstances like this please consider calling us. We have dealt with such tragedies for a very long time and if a remedy exists, we will endeavor hard to find it.
