Man with Disability Dies in Group Home Fire

Shortly after 5:00 am on Tuesday, August 11th, a fire at a single story group home serving residents with disabilities located on Gladwell near High Star not far from Beltway 8 and the Westpark Tollway in southeast Houston burst into flames. The home contained several staff members and 7 residents with various physical limitations. All of them made it outside of the burning building safely except one male resident in his 60s. HFD fire fighters and first responders treated the other residents for shock, stress and minor injuries as necessary and they were either taken to another facility or picked up by family members. The home is presently closed and the fire remains under investigation.
