HPD Helicopter Crash Kills Cop, Injures Pilot
At about 2:00 am on Saturday, May 2nd an HPD helicopter named Fox 75 with a male pilot and a sole male HPD tactical fight officer aboard crashed into the Biscayne Apartments in north Houston. The pilot was severely injured and the passenger flight officer was killed. There were no initial reports of ground injuries. According to HPD officers on the scene, the possibility of a homicide has not been ruled out. The pilot was rushed by ambulance to Hermann Memorial Hospital and went straight into surgery. He is expected to survive, but sustained massive injuries. The deceased officer is survived by his wife, two children and his parents and was much admired and liked by his fellow officers. Just the previous day, the helicopter had flown a salute fight over graduating HPD Academy officers. FAA investigators and FBI agents are joining HPD officers in an investigation of the crash.
