Girl Hit and Dragged by Daycare Bus
Just after school ended for the day on Wednesday, October 10th, a 7-year-old school girl attending Mission Glen Elementary was struck and dragged about 30 feet by a Kids-R-Kids daycare bus. The accident was witnessed by her 11-year-old brother, who rushed to her side as witnesses called 911 for help. The little girl was taken by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. According to a spokesperson for the school district, an investigation of the incident is underway. The bus driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigating officers, but according to witnesses, including the victim’s eye-witness brother, the driver was speeding in the school zone where the child was walking, during school zone hours. Nearby residences’ security videos are being reviewed as part of the investigation and reportedly one of them shows the child being hit and dragged beneath the bus and also that the bus never slowed down after entering the school zone until the child was hit. Police have indicated that the driver denies any wrongdoing and the daycare facility issued a statement expressing its concern for child safety and defending its driver. However, that driver has been placed on leave pending the investigation’s outcome, with which the daycare center has stated it will fully cooperate.
