Elderly Woman on Scooter Fatally Hit

In a light rain on the evening of Wednesday, January 3rd, an 86-year-old woman drove her motorized scooter out of the gate on the south side of an apartment complex located in the 1800 block of Wirt Road in northwest Houston and attempted to cross Wirt outside of a crosswalk and during busy traffic. A woman driving her vehicle through the area hit the elderly woman and her scooter, killing the victim instantly. The driver of the vehicle stopped immediately after the collision and remained on the scene until HPDS officers arrived. She was cooperative with the officers, who determined she was not intoxicated or speeding. No citations were issued. Investigation of the tragedy continues, which will include toxicology tests on the deceased victim to see if she was suffering any impairment before the collision.
