Elderly Woman Dies in Iron Gate Collapse
At about 8:00 pm on Thursday, August 30th, a 74-year-old woman was trying to open a large wrought iron gate on Fenn Road in Rosharon when the gate somehow came off its track and collapsed on top of her, pinning her to the ground. When neighbors noticed her lying under the gate, they called 911 and Fort Bend County Sheriff’s deputies and EMS personnel rushed to her aid. However, according to deputies, the woman, who was last seen by relatives at about 6:00 pm, was suffocated by the gate’s relatively substantial weight after lying beneath it for at least an hour or more and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Clearly, some sort of malfunction caused this gate to dislodge and collapse. Unfortunately, the elderly victim was not strong enough to extricate herself or call for help before she succumbed.
