Elderly Biker Dies in Crash
At 7:27 am on Wednesday, December 12th, a school bus driver had just retracted the bus’ stop sign after picking up some students on Bellfort Avenue near Buffalo Speedway in southwest Houston, when the 82-year-old male driver of a motorcycle pulled quickly around the bus, hit a curb and was thrown from his bike as it crashed. It was not immediately clear whether the biker was wearing a helmet, but according to HPD officers on the scene, the severely injured victim was being taken by ambulance to an area hospital when he died en route. As the school bus was not actually hit, neither the bus driver nor any of the students aboard it was injured in the incident and no other vehicles were involved. Investigation of the tragedy remains underway, which will include a mechanical exam of the motorcycle for a sudden equipment failure and routine autopsy toxicology tests to determine if the victim had a medical emergency or alcohol was a factor.
