Crummy Way to Celebrate Graduation!

At about 5:00 pm on Thursday, May 31st, five Pasadena ISD school busses transporting graduating Pasadena Memorial High School students to a ceremony in NRG Stadium were involved in a series of back-to-back rear end collisions with each other on Beltway 8 near Beamer Road. The collisions injured numerous students, with 9 being treated at the scene for minor injuries and several others taken by ambulances to area hospitals for treatment of more serious injuries. As of Thursday night, two students remained hospitalized. For all the students who missed the ceremony, the District will provide a smaller, private ceremony as soon as possible, and it issued a statement of condolences to all the students involved as well as their parents shortly after the incident.

There are lots of fun ways to celebrate graduation, but this sure isn’t one of them! If you or a loved one is ever injured in a school bus collision, please consider calling us. Vehicles which collide with school buses often do so because of actionable negligence. And, where, as appears to be the case here, the driver of a governmental entity’s vehicle is negligent, the Texas Tort Claims Act (TTCA) waives sovereign immunity for those injured by such negligent operation of a motor vehicle. We have successfully handled such claims for many, many years and we are very good at it.
