Collision Kills 11-Year-Old Boy

On the evening of Friday, June 8th, the adult male driver of a Ford F-150 pickup traveling on Hammerly Blvd. was making a left turn onto Wirt Road, but failed to yield the right of way and hit a family’s Honda Civic on Wirt. The Civic had three children, ages 11, 6 and 4 in the back seat and none of them were wearing seat belts. The crash severely injured the 11-year-old, a boy, and he was rushed by ambulance to Memorial Hermann Hospital, but died shortly after arrival. Neither driver was determined to have been using alcohol, and no citations were issued pending completion of an on-going investigation. Oddly, as HPD officers on the scene were investigating, another vehicle crashed into the rear end of one of the police cruisers and that driver tried to flee on foot. Needless to say, he went no place and was promptly arrested.
